In order to continue what we found to work so well during our self care project in Cullompton, we needed a new place to be. So we now have a new hub in the centre of Exeter, on Cathedral Close, where we can meet up, connect people, teach, get busy, hold classes, be creative and have a great time. This time it is not centred around a cafe but it will have the same excellent coffee. We are a social enterprise community interest company.

Hub News
Days have been flying by at the hub...there is so much activity in Exeter at the moment. So much buzz! I think people who have been lucky enough to have a break this summer (like me) have been plotting and planning and have come back all fired up.
The hub's timetable for September is really exciting and we have such a variety of events with more in the planning stages. It is amazing who walks through the door. Today I met a lady who is part of a Filapino-British organisation to support the Filipino community here in Exeter and the organisation is changing. She is fired up and excited to get involved with Devon Grapevine and I am keen for her organisation to get involved at the hub. We also had foody visitors with plans and tonight was our ESENCE Social Enterprise Group which was brilliant but late in the evening which makes it hard to settle. My head is spinning a bit.
Tomorrow is Eve's 'Re, Re, Re...' recycled materials workshop. It's sure to be a goody.

Weekly sessions after that.

Re Re Re...
I am on holiday this week but I have found my way to a wonderful little cafe in St Ives with WiFi so I can tell you about some exciting things at the hub. Wonderful textile artist Eve Malster has been in contact with Exeter City Council and they have supported two workshops she is running at the hub. This means that she is able to charge £2 per child which is amazing. Here is the second session for over 10 year olds...

About Friday 10th August...
It's Friday COFFEE TIME tomorrow at the hub from 12noon-1:30pm. We may need to get out the paddling pool if it is another scorcher like today. Everyone is welcome. It's donations for coffees & teas. It's becoming tradition to bring along packed lunches for the little ones, so feel free to do the same. And I am super excited because I am collecting my much awaited (because I forgot to order them last week) patty pans from Penny.
I am always asked what we do at the hub...so I made a board to demonstrate what we do. It's going to live by the entrance.

The next Exeter Baking Club meeting will be held on Wednesday 8th Augu
st 1:30-3:30pm at The Hub On The Green.
The theme is Biscuits! We will also be doing some biscuit/cookie decorating!
So if you would like to join us, please bring along your homemade biscuits plus the recipe (jotted down on a piece of paper). I will provide the cookies for decorating so feel free to bake absolutely any kind of biscuit you would like. If you do have any sprinkles or icing pens you could bring along for decorating though, that would be very lovely and helpful. At the end of the meeting all left over biscuits will be divided between members to take home so a little container might come in handy too. Everyone welcome. £3 per meeting, refreshments included.
Exeter Baking Club can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.

August's Cake and Craft Fair
Thank you to all our crafters who baked yesterday but an especially big thank you to Dan for his spanokopeta, Emma for her carrot cake, Penny for her rock cakes, Sal for her coffee and walnut cake, Liz for her home made super fancy jaffa cakes and white chocolate e& banana loaf... you guys didn't have tables at the fair you baked because you are complete and utter gems. Thank you also to Sonia for her pizza muffins, Sarah
for her sticky apricot & zesty lemon cake, Hannah for her chocolate cherry cupcakes and rose cupcakes, Jackie for her orange cupcakes, Julie for her jam, Lou for her strawberry & buttercream sponge, Eve for her lemon cupcakes, jean for her fruitcake, Sam for her lemon drizzle cake & mum for her brownies, carrot cake, marble shortbread & lemon drizzle. Fingers crossed that's all our fab bakers :) We couldn't do it without you. Thank you
My camera was dying yesterday so I took very few photos. Luckily Penny and Simon had their cameras but as a result I have no pictures of the Croft's olympic face-painting :(
We had an amazing day. The fair is primarily about bringing people together and having a good time but it is also a fundraiser for the hub's activities and even though the hub wasn't as busy as it has been in the past we made more money than ever before for the second time in a row. I am buying some exhibition gadgets this month as I have promised a wonderful man called Malcolm that in Septemebr he can exhibit some work from a recent project he ran. So thank you for coming and shopping and eating. You have helped to put on an exhibition which will mean an awful lot to some very special people. Good job!
I would like to say an extra thank you to Verity helped to run the cake stall and who stayed to tidy up with her fabulous family; to Eleanor who came to help on the cake stall; to Hannah who read stories to the little ones and to Sonia who helped to tidy up too.
I'm off to get myself a camera :)
