Quirky Tuesday

It's been a quirky day at the hub and at the Sustainable Health Centre. I am typing this with a sore wrist as I have just tripped over my desk, snapped the key in the door and hurt myself.

The day started badly when I woke up and realised that I hadn't told someone about an early morning meeting so I was in at 7:30am to check the diary half-dressed and with wet hair. It turned out they knew all along.

Choir was amazing today. What I loved most about it was Prim. Prim came, had a ball and left grinning.

Coffee time and contemporary crafting was buzzy and busy. Lisa had them all creating different things. Rag-rugging, weaving, appliqué, machine embroidery...the works. Lisa's groups are amazing. She inspires people in a very gentle and encouraging way to create amazing things. Then Sophie had her heuristic play and rhymes session sadly this was the last one but Arabella's will still be running fortnightly from next Tuesdays. She her website

I also had a call from Ed, lead singer of a band who wanted to look at the hub for a music video shoot involving a bald eagle. How cool are we!!! ;)

We also booked in another birthday party. That's a good use of the hub. It fills it full of happy squeals.

I am off home in a bit for a large rib (3 to be precise) of Piper's Farm beef which I have been dreaming of for nearly a year. My Dad has taken pity on me and has ordered one for my birthday supper. Yummy! If my wrist carries on like this I may have to get Lottie to cut up my supper for me :(

This is for the young man who came to the fair...

This is Sophie Headlong-Moore's recipe for the young man who came to the fair on Saturday :)

250g marshmallows (mix of colours makes them look yummier!)
2.5ml (1/2  tsp) vanilla extract
100g butter, diced
175g rice crispies

Grease a tin (7 x 11" or 18 x 28 cm)

Put 200g of mallows with butter and vanilla extract in saucepan

Medium heat- cook until all melted.

Roughly chop remaining marshmallows

Mix rice crispies and chopped mallows with melted mixture

Spoon into tray and press down with back of spoon.

Allow to cool and then cut.

This Friday...

Lovely Sarah Hewlett has put on this workshop for us at only £2.50. If you are free on Friday afternoon between 2-3:30pm I would strongly recommend you book your place. She is an amazing and inspirational teacher and you will leave feeling refreshed and ready for the weekend.

How lovely...

Lauren who baked us some wonderful goodies has blogged about her baking at http://throughthemagicdoor.net/2012/03/04/a-cupcakes-first-outing/

Cake and Craft Fair 3rd March

Our Cake and Craft Fair on Saturday was our busiest and best yet. It was an amazing team effort and I have had so many lovely comments already. Thank you to everyone who helped to run it and thank you to everyone who came along and supported it. I think a gold start goes to Amelia and Sue who came for coffee in the morning, did a bit of shopping and came back for afternoon tea. I love them for that :)

Making Table: Sonia and all her busy little creative joiner-inners were making magic wands, dream catchers and tickling sticks on the crafting table. In many households Sunday was spent perfecting spells.

We had Lou, Sarah, Sam, Elaine, Jenny and Sonia selling their crafts. Penny was there with information on her fabulous Organic Vegetable scheme. Klaas Overzee was telling people about Feldenkrais. My Lottie ran her pocket money stall as well as selling for people who couldn't make it to the fair (the wonderful screen printed baby grows, Soap Daze and Jenny's knitting).

Rachel, Eleanor and I sorted the cakes and coffees. Lauren, Becky, Zoe, Rachel and I did the baking and we did well! For the first time ever we judged the amounts just right (but my friends who normally gobble up the leftovers weren't so impressed).

We had fabulous visitors. Some who we've known from the start and have been coming each month, some who saw us in the Echo and came to have a look, some just passing by and some brought by a friends. I have adopted Joy who says she is going to come and live at the hub. That's good news for us all as she is such fun (Miranda's mum again!) and can knit. Hurray!

The cleaning up was a dream thanks to Simon, Mum, Lottie and Sonia. We get more organised and swifter at this fair malarky every month.

THE NEXT FAIR IS ON SATURDAY 31ST MARCH. SO SAVE THE DATE!
We already have Hannah (who made the fabulous treasure boxes with everyone at the February fair) coming to run the crafting table, Ruvina will be face-painting, Little Stitch will be back, Sarah 'Paint Me a Pitcure' Macdonald and Sarah Hewlett (acupressurist and reflexologist) are all going to be there. We still have a bit of space.

BEGGING AND PLEADING TIME...
At the next fair I will be without my family team. Lottie, Mum and Simon are all away as is Eleanor so I would love a helping hand behind the cafe/cake table if anyone could spare an hour or two. It's Saturday 31st March 10:30-4:30. Upstairs Dan???

Penny's Vegetables

Everyone who ordered Shillingford Organics Vegetables from Penny by Monday, had them delivered today. It caused such a buzz. Penny was arranging all the goodies on the table for a photo or two and we all ooohed and aahhhed. I am just home after setting up for the fair, which I did in my Irregular Choice heels which was a bit silly so I am shattered with slightly sore feet. But I am happy bunny as I had a huge plate of purple sprouting broccoli cooked in butter with mushrooms in a cream, thyme and butter sauce. It took me seconds to cook and seconds to eat. So yummy. If I didn't have my Penny's vegetable bag I would have struggled to find something so perfect for supper. I love Penny, I love purple sprouting broccoli, I love Shillingford and I love butter! If you would like a delivery for Friday 9th March get in touch or look on the website

These are such silly photos but I like them

A big thank you to Davy, Laura and Alfie for their fabulous changing table all the way from Oz. It's a bit special. Davy also delivered it.
Lovely to meet Carolina and Ros today.
I am loving the Devon Grapevine. If you haven't had a look at it, do google it. It's a fabulous resource.
And I love my sister who posted me the most amazing ring that she's made. It's a worry ring and apparently if you twist it, it takes all your worries away. I'll be testing it and I'll keep you posted.
Darren did a great job in the Sustainable Health Centre today. It's lovely to have an extra pair of hands in reception and such a capable pair too. And thank you to Simon who was glued to the desk this afternoon whilst I was sorting out fair things.

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of people at the Cake and Craft Fair tomorrow. We will be there from 10:30am-4:30pm. We usually have a busy start and a busy end. So if you want to come in the quieter moments so pop by at lunchtime.

Cake and Craft Fair Tomorrow...

The cakes are starting to arrive for the fair tomorrow...

Laurel and Zoe screen print these baby clothes and are selling them for just £4.50. There are other designs too. They dropped them off today and I just love them!

East Devon Coast and Country Magazine
