I'm back here now! I tried the Wordpress blog but it is a tricky site to use and the thought of waiting to upload photos which wouldn't behave themselves was enough to squeeze any enthusiasm for sharing our fabulous hub news with you so I'm back.
In order to continue what we found to work so well during our self care project in Cullompton, we needed a new place to be. So we now have a new hub in the centre of Exeter, on Cathedral Close, where we can meet up, connect people, teach, get busy, hold classes, be creative and have a great time. This time it is not centred around a cafe but it will have the same excellent coffee. We are a social enterprise community interest company.

Parenting By Connection...
Today at the hub at 11am Laura Newman is giving a talk on Parenting by Connection. It's a drop-in session (so no need to book). There is no cost to come but she will have a donation pot at the end. Everyone welcome.

Are you free on Friday lunchtimes to give us a hand?
We are looking for crafters on a Friday lunchtime who have a bit of time and energy to help out. We have a craft group (with lots of fabulous resources) who make things to sell to raise funds for Magic Carpet. The more crafters, the more we can make and the more money we can raise. Simple! The group we have at the moment are fabulous but it would be lovely to have a few more people to come along so Hannah (who is in charge of this project) can run a fabulous stall with lots of amazing things on it. We meet at the hub's coffee time at noon-1:30pm on Fridays. You can just turn up and muck in.
Have a look at Magic Carpet's website.

Exeter Gingerbread Group for Single Parents
A message from Claire at Exeter Gingerbread (a social group for single parents and their children)
Dear All I'm just trying to find out who feels they will make it to the meet next week at the Hub - Wednesday 13th March 3.30-5.30pm? For those who would like to we will be creating Easter headwear by recycling any hats that we bring along with various arts and crafts materials. Please can you let me know if you are intending to come along and whether you would like to do the crafting so that I can prepare the right amount of crafting materials and make arrangements for my time also - thank you. 23rd March - I can be at the Pheonix Arts centre cafe from 2pm for an hour or so to chat with anyone who can come along about any ideas for the group and any feedback. People can stay for as long as they want to, or if you can't make it please email me any ideas you have. Its our group and its important eveyone has a say in the way forward. 7th April meet up at Pheonix family Sundays - can anyone turn up and meet others who may like to go to this? I am not available to do this due to other commitments. There is no pressure or responsibility apart from being the first person to turn up at the venue for other people to meet. Can anyone be at the RAMM cafe (museum cafe) at 11ish - 11.30 on Sunday 7th April to meet others for a coffee and chat and then go on to do the family activities if people would like to? If anyone has already made plans to go along - please let me know and then I can let new members who contact me know. best wishes Claire

Handmade Book Workshop on Saturday
Nina Fenner's handmade book workshops are quite something. Her group made exposed spine books last night and there is one more workshop to go next Tuesday evening. I have asked Nina to run Saturday workshops and she has agreed. There will be three workshops during the day making different handmade books so you could come to one, two or all three workshops. The workshops will be between £15 - £20 each with a generously discounted rate for all three. If you are interested in finding out more please let Nina know you would like to be kept informed with dates, times and details. Email Nina Fenner at vince.fenner@hotmail.co.uk

For anyone who would like to join us, we will be making Easter hats by revamping and revitalising old hats. Please bring any hat that you / your children no longer wear - baseball cap, woolly hat, alice band, sun hat etc etc and we will stick and glue to create an Easter hat.
I can bring my art materials for people to use with a donation of £3.00 per family for materials used. If you would like to bring some of your own materials that you have been saving up for making that's great too. The wonderous Poundland has an array of Easter craft-making materials and Easter hats. Also please remember £1 donation for tea / coffee to put in the Hub's pink piggy bank.

Handmade Books Workshop
All sorts of amazing things happen at the hub. It's one of those sorts of places. It's because so many people come through the doors (it would be a pretty dull place if they didn't) and every person adds a little something to the mix. Some days go like clockwork, some days don't and some exceed all expectation. Yesterday exceeded expectation.
It was a juggly sort of day. There was a lot going on and I was trying to be in too many places at once. People were very kind and slid appointments forwards and backwards to fit it all in. Those small gestures make a hug difference to the way a day pans out.
We had a group of students from the University of Exeter yesterday. A big group. They were being shown around by Dr Alan K. Outram, Head of Archaeology, Associate Professor of Archaeological Science and Executive Editor of "World Archaeology" and he was fascinating. I didn't want him to go as he was pouring out facts about the hall far faster than I could take them in. Then it was choir (who have a performance on Thursday at a residential home), coffee time, Sonia's craft group and Babyccino.
In the evening Nina Fenner ran the first of her three homemade book workshops. The group made concertina books, shadow (or theatre) books and an origami fold book as well as learning to bind the spine and attach fastenings. Not bad for two hours! I was completely enthralled and I can't wait to make books at home with Lottie. Nina was very generous in sharing all her tips and hints which meant everyone went home with a stack of amazing books of various shapes and sizes.
